THE SOCRATIC METHOD

   After reading the Socratic Method I understood that it gives students the opportunity to share their ideas and opinions. It also gives them a chance to ask questions and possibly get them answered. Overall its a pretty good system in my opinion.

GATSBY NOTES AND THOUGHTS ON CHAPTER 6

At the beginning of the chapter, a reporter showed up at Gatsby's house. He wanted to know more about Gatsby. Nick then explains that there was a story about Gatsby that said he didn't really live in a house, but on a boat that looked like a house. He also said that they thought the boat would sail up and down the shore. Nick let us know that Gatsby's real name was James Gatz and he had it legally changed at the age of 17. At the end of the chapter Gatsby was telling Nick what had happened 5 years ago on a date with Daisy. He was adding so much detail when telling Nick and it was weird thinking someone wouldn’t keep those thoughts/ moments to themselves. He also told Nick that he wanted to change the past. He wanted everything to be how it was 4 years ago. There were certain things that he wasn’t considering.  For one, Daisy was 4 years older therefor had a new perspective on everything around her. SO THIS GUY GOES FOR A WALK.....

In class we read " Young Goodman Brown " and at first i was a bit confused. Dr. Preston had to explain and really break down what was going on. In the story this guy goes for a walk and his wife, Faith, wanted to go with him. He told her that it was too dangerous so she couldn't go. As he began his walk although he felt his wife's sadness, he continued. He was walking through the woods and started to feel uneasy. He thought there could have been Indians watching him. Some other guy walks towards him and starts talking to him. Young Goodman Brown thought he could have been an evil presence.
