GATSBY NOTES AND THOUGHTS ON CHAPTER 8

The next morning Nick met up with Gatsby. He looked tired. He then let Nick know that he waited until 4:30 am for Daisy to give him the signal that she was okay and that he was okay to go home. This told me that Daisy didn’t care enough to remember that Gatsby was outside waiting for a signal. Nick then told Gatsby that he should go away for a while because his car was most likely going to get traced. Gatsby however didn’t want to leave Daisy behind and wanted to protect her. This goes to show how much Gatsby cares about her, maybe a little too much. The author shows us how Wilson is feeling about all of this and of course he’s not doing well. He figures out that it was Gatsby's car an goes out to try and find Gatsby. When he finally gets to his house he shoots Gatsby and then kills himself.

GATSBY NOTES AND THOUGHTS CHAPTER 7

At the beginning of the chapter Nick finds out that Gatsby fired all of his servants. Gatsby then told him that he replaced each and every one of them. When Nick asked him why he said he didn't want them to gossip since Daisy had been over a few times. Nick then went to the Buchanan house and went inside where all the fans were turned on due to the hot weather. He walked in and saw both Jordan and Daisy sitting by the fans. Tom was in the hallway on the phone. Gatsby was standing on the carpet looking around. Jordan told Nick that Tom was talking to his girl. When Tom came back in Daisy told him to make them some cold drinks. When he left the room, Daisy went over to Gatsby and kissed him on the mouth. The proceeded to tel him " You know I love you."  A little later they decided to go to town. Tom wanted to take Gatsby's car but he didn't like the idea. Daisy then told Tom to take Nick and Jordan and that her and Gatsby would follow in Gatsby's car. At the end

HAVE TO VERSUS WANT TO VERSUS GET TO

I think that the difference between have to, want to and get to is when you have to you have no choice. Its something you have to do and don't really have a choice. Want to is something you actually want to do. No one forces you to do it, you do it on your own. Get to, to me, means its an opportunity to do something.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     ,m,m.nnnnnnn.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

GATSBY NOTES AND THOUGHTS ON CHAPTER 6

At the beginning of the chapter, a reporter showed up at Gatsby's house. He wanted to know more about Gatsby. Nick then explains that there was a story about Gatsby that said he didn't really live in a house, but on a boat that looked like a house. He also said that they thought the boat would sail up and down the shore. Nick let us know that Gatsby's real name was James Gatz and he had it legally changed at the age of 17. At the end of the chapter Gatsby was telling Nick what had happened 5 years ago on a date with Daisy. He was adding so much detail when telling Nick and it was weird thinking someone wouldn’t keep those thoughts/ moments to themselves. He also told Nick that he wanted to change the past. He wanted everything to be how it was 4 years ago. There were certain things that he wasn’t considering.  For one, Daisy was 4 years older therefor had a new perspective on everything around her. The big one was the fact that Daisy has a daughter. What would Gatsby do wit

GUIDING QUESTIONS CHAPTER 8

1. Gatsby tells Nick that he waited until 4:30am for Daisy to give him the signal that she was ok and that he would be able to go home. This made me think that Daisy forgot all about Gatsby and didn’t remember until 6 hours later. 2. Nick suggests that Gatsby go away for a while because they might trace his car. Gatsby didn’t want to go because he didn’t want to leave Daisy. 3. Gatsby says that he and Daisy were in love. 4. The season is autumn and autumn is when things start dying. This started with Myrtle Wilson. 5. At the end of the chapter Wilson thinks that Gatsby was the one who murdered his wife. He walks all night to get to his house and once he gets there he shoots Gatsby then proceeds to kill himself.

DARK PATTERNS

I remember a time when I was younger I used to use my mom's phone to watch videos or look something up for school before I had my own phone. I remember I was researching something for class on a sketchy website with a lot of ad pop ups. One of them being for something that a little kid my age would want. I forgot what it was but I remember it saying that if I wanted to get this item i would have to hurry because one the time ran out it would be gone. I ran to my sister's room and begged her to get it for me. She told me she would buy it for me when we went to the store and I was okay with that idea. So I exit out of the ad and forgot all about it the next day.

HOPEPUNK

Hopepunk is about standing up and fighting for what you believe in and standing up for other people. Genuinely and sincerely caring about something, whatever it is, requires bravery and strength. Authors think it matters because it helps build the story and where the story takes place making the book a more realistic and vivid read.

THE WORLD IS MY LIBRARY

In class we were assigned to research two short stories and an american novel that we found interesting or ones that simply caught our attention. I wanted to look for a novel first, so I typed American Novels into the search bar. There were a lot of options but there were two that caught my attention. The Scarlet Letter was one of them and I also came across the novel The Color Purple. I think that both of these novels would be a great read. For the short stories I went through the same process and found one that's called An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge. I read a summary on it and found it super interesting. I would be happy to read these either in class or in my free time.

NOTES AND THOUGHTS ON GATSBY CHAPTER 5

Nick and Gatsby invited Daisy over for tea at Nicks house. Gatsby was nervous to see Daisy again. As Daisy got out of the car, Nick went to greet her. When they walked back into Nick’s apartment he noticed Gatsby wasn’t there. He then knocked at the front door and came in. While Nick went to greet Daisy Gatsby had sneaked out the back door and went around. At first things were awkward and uncomfortable. Nick then went outside to give them some privacy. He came back in a half hour later and saw Daisy crying. Gatsby then decided to show Daisy his house and invited Nick to come along. They waited outside while Daisy freshened up. During the tour Nick wasn’t used to seeing the house quiet and empty since he had only been there for the parties. Seeing all the clothes and stuff Jay (Gatsby) owned made Daisy cry. She cried at the thought of knowing that was the life she could have had. In her current relationship she is getting cheated on constantly. Jay actually loves and cares for her.

GATSBY NOTES CHAPTER 4

In the beginning of this chapter Nick was at Gatsby's house and some young ladies were talking about Gatsby behind his back but Nick thought it was ironic considering they were at is house and eating his food. He then tells us he wrote down the names of all the people that went to Gatsby's house that summer. The way he described these people was strange. These people had money, title, fame or knew somebody who did. Even with everything they had they were unhappy. Some killed themselves, died, has accidents because they were drunk and one man even strangled his wife. How can their lives be so messed up when they have everything they could ask for? Gatsby showed up to Nick's driveway and invited him to lunch and for a drive. Gatsby then started telling him about his life in order to clear up some of the rumors he had heard about him. Nick thought the story sounded to detailed. He said he sounded like a character. Later on Nick found it weird when Gatsby told him he should kno

GATSBY PAGES 38-

In this half of the second chapter Myrtle got a puppy but when they went home the dog wasn't getting the attention he needed. Instead everyone was continuing their conversations as if he weren't even there. Tom and Myrtle were then discussing if she had the right to mention Daisy's name. (Tom's wife) Myrtle then proceeds to shouts Daisy's name repeatedly and stated she can say it whenever she wanted to. Tom then broke her nose with a swift open handed movement. Nick then went to Gatsby's party and tried asking 3 people about where he was but they didn't tell them anything. He then saw Jordan and went to greet her. Jordan say two girls who wanted to talk to her but then insulted her twice. Jordan clapped back and the girls just walked away. A while later they were sitting at the same table and talking as if nothing had happened.

GATSBY PAGES 27-38

Tom drags Nick to New York with him and Nick gets to meet his mistress. Toms mistress comes downstairs and walks past her husband as if he wasn’t there and tells him to get chairs as a way to get him to leave the room. When he leaves she moves close to Tom and makes plans with him. When the husband (Wilson)  comes back with the chairs no one was going to sit in them since they had already left. Later in the chapter Catherine said that both Tom and Myrtle ( his mistress) can’t stand their partners. Nick then asked why they don’t just get divorced and marry each other and Catherine said that Daisy was a catholic and she didn’t believe in divorce but according to Nick ( who is Daisy's cousin) this wasn’t true.

GATSBY PAGES 12-22

According to Miss Baker, Tom was having an affair with someone in New York. Daisy apparently knew about his affair but didn't really do anything. She later asked Nick if he wanted to hear about her two year old daughter. Daisy then told him that she hopes her daughter turns out to be a fool because all girls have to offer the world is being beautiful foolish little girls.
