GATSBY NOTES AND THOUGHTS ON CHAPTER 6

At the beginning of the chapter, a reporter showed up at Gatsby's house. He wanted to know more about Gatsby. Nick then explains that there was a story about Gatsby that said he didn't really live in a house, but on a boat that looked like a house. He also said that they thought the boat would sail up and down the shore. Nick let us know that Gatsby's real name was James Gatz and he had it legally changed at the age of 17. At the end of the chapter Gatsby was telling Nick what had happened 5 years ago on a date with Daisy. He was adding so much detail when telling Nick and it was weird thinking someone wouldn’t keep those thoughts/ moments to themselves. He also told Nick that he wanted to change the past. He wanted everything to be how it was 4 years ago. There were certain things that he wasn’t considering.  For one, Daisy was 4 years older therefor had a new perspective on everything around her. The big one was the fact that Daisy has a daughter. What would Gatsby do with Daisy’s kid?

An example would be if someone were to threaten the president of the United States and someone important were to be listening to them then they would receive a visit from the secret service. QUESTION 1: What is this class about? ANSWER: This is an American Literature class (English class).  Dr. Preston teaches English from a different perspective.
